Kentucky Colleges (continued from top)

Kentucky has some of the great state universities, sprawling campuses with thousands of students and nationally recognized departments and, of course, sports teams. Kentucky also has smaller liberal arts schools, or specialized religious schools. Many of these schools are tucked away in Kentucky's beautiful landscape, making the state a good destination for lover's of nature (and education).

Other Kentucky Colleges
Big cities like Louisville or Lexington have good community college programs that prepare you for specific job fields or give you the foundation necessary to get into the big four-year Kentucky universities. Like many community college systems, Kentucky schools prepare you for the fields that are in high demand by employers in the area.

Kentucky is a rich state economically. The state prides itself on producing some of the nation's best tobacco, horses, and whiskey. Corn, soybeans, wheat, fruit, hogs, cattle, and dairy products are among the agricultural items produced.

Kentucky Region And Economy
Kentucky is also a crossroads state. To the north are both the industrial and corn belts of Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. To the South and East are West Virginia and Virginia, southern Appalachian states like Kentucky.

Among the manufactured items produced in the state are motor vehicles, furniture, aluminum ware, brooms, apparel, lumber products, machinery, textiles, and iron and steel products. Kentucky also produces significant amounts of petroleum, natural gas, fluorspar, clay, and stone. However, Kentucky is coal country. Coal still accounts for 85% of the state's total mineral income.

Louisville is famous for the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, and the Bluegrass country around Lexington is the home of some of the world's finest race horses. Other attractions are Mammoth Cave, the George S. Patton, Jr., Military Museum at Fort Knox, and Old Fort Harrod State Park.
